Both connections to internet and to host

Hello, I'm new to Virtual Box, I am using it to try the Ubuntu release of Linux.
I created the VM and installed successfully Ubuntu on it. My host OS is Windows XP Professional SP3. At present I can:
1. set up an internet connection for the VM using a NAT adapter configured as DHCP OR
2. set up a connection between host and guest using a Virtual Box host interface and configuring it with static IP address (which is like create a small subnet with only guest and host).
But one thing exclude the other. I am asking is it possible to have both the connections in the VM, to internet and to the host? I tried with bridge in Windows XP or enable a second adapter for the VM, but nothing worked...
Thank you very much
