Segmentation fault error when starting from the user

Post by azhirov1991 »

Linux Solus 6.6.20-279.current
Oracle VM VirtualBox VM Selector v7.0.14 r161095

I tried to run the previously installed VirtualBox and it refused to start. I tried to run it from under the terminal:

Code: Select all

alexander@solus ~ $ VirtualBox
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
All modules are loaded, the user is a member of vbox* groups. Previously, VirtualBox was running and working

Code: Select all

alexander@solus ~ $ lsmod | grep vbox
vboxnetadp 28672 0
vboxnetflt 40960 0
vboxdrv 712704 2 vboxnetadp,vboxnetflt
alexander@solus ~ $ cat /etc/group | grep vbox
vboxusers:x:980:alexander
vboxsf:x:978:alexander
I tried deleting the directory with the configuration ~/.config/VirtualBox. After that, VirtualBox started. But as soon as I create a new virtual machine, VirtualBox closes and refuses to start.

Code: Select all

If I copy the configuration ~/.config/VirtualBox to the root user and run it from root, then VirtualBox starts and works.

Re: Segmentation fault error when starting from the user

Not obvious which thread actually caused the crash. However, this is for a Solus specific VirtualBox build which likely means that Oracle devs won't look into it. 3rd party packages are too tedious to support.
