VA-API in virtualbox. Is there any driver or setup available?

Post by vijpatel »

I am using Ubuntu 22.04 guest OS in virtualbox over Windows 11 host OS on a Intel 11th gen CPU with Intel HD Graphics. I want to use VA-API drivers for hardware acceleration in Ubuntu (Guest OS). However, it shows SVGA II Graphics Adaptor which is not supported by VA-API. Is there any workaround to access bare metal CPU capabilities in virtualbox? Or any special drivers to run VA-API plugin?

At the moment there is no video decoding acceleration support (and it will stay this way for 7.0.x). How far we get in the development version remains to be seen. We didn't check the state for Linux guests so far because the higher priority is always Windows VMs.
