Windows 11 and 10 boot up issue

Post by MakH01 »

It's been some time since I've used VM software so sorry if I don't know exactly what's going on.

I am having an issue when I try to run windows 11 or 10 on a VM while I am hosting on my Mac. I am following a video and I think the issue might be the CPU that I am allowing in the VM but I cannot change that cause it is greyed out. When I initially set up the VM I am selecting 3-4 CPU but when I double check in the settings of the VM after I finish making it, the CPU is 1 and I can't change it. The guy's video I am watching does not have this issue but I am almost sure that is what is causing the VM to crash when I try to boot it up.

After it fails it just gives me a message that says there was a critical error and to check the forums. I would appreciate any help with this.

Thank you!

No, or actually yes, but the picture appears to be of a tiny rectangle.

If the screenshot is only of the window that mentioned the critical error, then the log file that the error mentioned would be much more helpful.

Note that if you're using an M1/M2/M# Mac, it won't run modern OS's in Virtualbox. The ARM tech preview is not up to that yet

Which part of the logs would you like? I am currently running VirtualBox 7.0.8 which I believe is supported. I watched a video to make sure. Thank you.

That would be the whole file, not a part. Zipped, please, and posted using the forum's Attachments tab.

Thanks for the log.

Yup, that's an M# ARM Mac, and modern Windows won't run in Virtualbox on it. Please see M1/M2 Mac 7.0 Beta Status.

So would I need to download another version of VBox or can is it not possible to run it on my Mac for right now?

I have read that UTM might run on M# Macs, and the ARM version of Windows might work.
