Hello,
I have Windows 10 x64 pro host with two VM's. I've disabled the built-in DHCP server on the host-only adapter (v7.x) - IP is static 192.168.56.1.
The two VM's are:
1) Win2012R2 server (with DHCP server enabled) - 192.168.56.2 (static)
2) Windows 7 x64 - 192.168.56.100 (using Windows DHCP server).
So clearly the networking works since the Win7 VM got the DHCP lease from the Win2012 server.
Ping Test:
From Win2012R2 server to Win7 (192.168.56.100) - time out.
From Win2012R2 server to itself (192.168.56.2) - good
From Win2012R2 server to host (192.168.56.1) - good
From Win7 to Win2012R2 server (192.168.56.2) - time out.
From Win7 to itself (192.168.56.100) - good
From Win7 server to host (192.168.56.1) - good
From Host to Win2012R2 server (192.168.56.2) - timeout
From Host to Win7 (192.168.56.100) - timeout
From Host to Host (192.168.56.1) - good
I also tried turning off the windows firewall in Win7 but same result.
I looked in the local Win10 host system, I don't see any "Host Only" network (to set private, domain, public), just my network with mobo nic, in adapters I see the Host-Only adapter and looks fine to me.
Using Norton 360 as well.
What is going on here and how do I get them to all ping each other?
Thanks!
Unable to ping Host to Guest, Guest to Guest using Host-Only Adapter?

Re: Unable to ping Host to Guest, Guest to Guest using Host-Only Adapter?
Update: I got the guest to guest working by doing the following:
1) One Win2012R2 server, added file server roll and created a share.
2) On Win7, Turn On file and printer sharing (not sure why that would be needed when I disabled the firewall as a test).
Anyway, that fixed those, but I still can't ping from Host to Guest.

Re: Unable to ping Host to Guest, Guest to Guest using Host-Only Adapter?
Well, this is weird...
I disabled norton smart firewall, ping still didn't work.
I opened a new command prompt, now ping works.
I enabled norton smart firewall, ping still worked.
I opened a new command prompt, ping still worked.
I closed all open command prompts.
I opened a new command prompt, ping works.
So it's working now, not sure why I would have to open a new command prompt?
Hope this helps someone else...

Re: Unable to ping Host to Guest, Guest to Guest using Host-Only Adapter?
The first post's results would indicate that the Windows 7 and 2012R2 firewalls might have ping (ICMP Echo Request) disabled.
Could be that the changes in post 2 enabled ICMP Echo Request.
I'm not certain if Norton firewall got into the Host-Only network, but if it did it may have ben interfering as well.
Sometimes a command prompt has its own environment which needs to be refreshed. However, adding a 3rd-party firewall opens all sorts of interference possibilities.
Is everything pinging everything now?
