Have spent a few hours trying to get my guest OS (Opensuse 11) to communicate with the outside world using Vbox 2.04 on a x64 Windows host.
Decided to try out on a different machine x32 Windows XP running Vbox 2.02.
Have learned that shared folders work on the x32 Vbox 2.02 setup but not on the x64 Vbox 2.04 setup.

Do you get any error messages? Anything in the log files (/var/log)? Please give more information.

I issue the mount -t vboxsf command that works perfectly on the 2.02 x32 system.
The return message is ' /sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: No such file or directory'

Did you install the Guest Additions? And if you did, did you update the system, especially the kernel? You need to install the GA after each kernel upgrade again.

I certainly did.
Installed the kernel-sources and the additional required modules. There has not been any kernel upgrades since I did this. Also just to make sure I reran the GA-script again yesterday. Same result.
Also as stated: Works perfectly on Vbox 2.02 on a Win XP x32 host with Opensuse 11.0 x32.

The Guest Additions work on Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit with Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) as the guest OS. I can share files with one of my six storage devices. Four of which are USB-based.
So, I have no problem with it at all.

That's good for you! Still no luck with server 2008 x64 and x64 Linux guest

I'm currently downloading a 4.33 GB OpenSuse 64-bit DVD and I'm gonna try it out shortly on this PC since my host PC is 64-bit to see if it works. I cannot download the OpenSuse DVD of that size due to the 4 GB download limitations under Internet Explorer.
In Windows 98/Me, the download limit for IE is 2 GB.
Currently, the size downloaded so far is 2.59 GB and I'm hoping that it crosses the 4 GB single-session download barrier in Firefox 3, which means that the download should be done in about 3 to 4 hours.
