Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
When I try to install Ubuntu 24.04 (Daily ISO) in VirtualBox, it shows an empty (blank) installer window!
I tried with and without "3D acceleration" enabled. Also tried booting up Ubuntu installer with "Safe graphics". But no success
Somehow VirtualBox doesn't render contents of the installer window... (see screenshot)
If I quit from the installer (by Alt+F4), the Desktop shows okay. But, as soon as I launch installer from Desktop, the same problem persists!
And yes, before you ask, I already have installed latest version of VirtualBox from official web-site. It didn't fix anything.
Also, I tried uploading a log, but the .log file is "too large" and, if I ZIP it, it cannot be uploaded at all. Apparently .zip upload is forbidden.
So, please update VirtualBox to support Ubuntu 24.04

.zip isn't forbidden. In fact it's about the most common kind of compressed upload we have on the forum.
You can have only three uploads per post, though. If you did the three screenshots first, then you'd need a new post for the zip. Please try the log again.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
The VM hardware in the log doesn't appear to have anything wrong, except for several of these:
Try reducing processor count from all the 16 host cores to 2. Also check what the Linux version of Task Manager says is happening when the installer window is running blank. Could be something inside the OS waiting to engage that is taking longer than normal.
I'm not sure what it means though.00:07:16.585223 TM: Giving up catch-up attempt at a 60 002 240 080 ns lag; new total: 240 019 079 592 ns

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
Like so?
BTW: Reducing the number of CPU cores did not seem to have any effect

I'm no Linux guru, but it appears the OS is running, and the installer is having trouble. We'd need a Linux guru here to see if there is anything Virtualbox is failing to contribute.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
Please provide a (zipped) VBox.log file from a VM run with only 2 vCPUs.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
Thanks for the VBox.log file. Unfortunately, I don't see any cause for your issue in the log messages. I'd suggest to try VirtualBox 6.1.50, which is expected soon (around 2024-01-16).

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
Struggled with the same issue VirtualBox 6.1.48 / 7.0.12 and Ubuntu 23.10 guest installation. The GUI response of the guest is very slow. A workaround is to restarting the Ubuntu installer window manually, but keeps asking to quit or continue as a result of no GUI response. Click on each step continue.
After installation, the Ubuntu kernel should be downgraded from 6.5 to 6.3 as this is broken in VirtualBox 6.1.48 / 7.0.12, then reinstall Guest additions. In the guest Display settings, set 128MB graphics memory and never enable 3D graphics acceleration as this is not supported or functional for many years (and I don't see this on the near feature supported like VMWare).
@VirtualBox developers: Please add and run guest integration tests with (Ubuntu) 6.5 kernels before releasing the new VirtualBox 7.1.50 or 7.0.14. When related issue viewtopic.php?p=545277 is not included, consider shifting the release date to avoid releasing another broken version. We encountered major graphics issues which makes VirtualBox guests unusable in our production environment.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
We aren't the Virtualbox developers here, only fellow free Virtualbox users with no entitled support. You'll need an existing or new Bugtracker ticket with a reliable way to reproduce the problem to reach the developers.
Why are you putting new versions of anything out in production without testing in a test lab first? 1st rule of admin: If it ain't broke don't fix it. Folks who put new versions into production without tests have more problems than those who don't. Any new version of anything may have bugs. That's a known concept in computer administration. And sysops who don't test will learn why they should test.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
Ubuntu updates were tested without any issues on native machines and VMWare in our test-lab. Initially, we did not discover issues in our automated VirtualBox guests test environment. Now we learned that more manual VirtualBox audio/graphics tests should be added by humans. The other way around, how is it possible to release VirtualBox 6.1.48 / 7.0.14 with this kind of graphics issues? Luckily, VMWare guests are updated without issues in production. Why are you putting new versions of anything out in production without testing in a test lab first?
In an ideal world, yes. However, security updates cannot be avoided. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 can not install!
Virtualbox != VMware. When Virtualbox starts charging for Virtualbox like VMware does, then the money and the dev time will probably flow more freely. How much would your company be willing to pay per seat? And if your company have a support contract with Oracle they would have direct dev access, so no need to come to these user forums.
That must mean 6.1.48/7.0.12, because 6.1.50/7.0.14 is not out yet.
See above regarding money. 7.0 had ambitious graphics redesigns that are still getting worked on, but are much better than 7.0.0. And Linux changed too, so the devs have to try to keep up.
