Debian Bookworm crashes daily with referenced memory error

Post by fnchysan »

I have a Windows host running up to date Virtualbox and a clean install of Debian bookworm. I have been experiencing crashes with the following:

The instruction at 0x00007FFE50F9F43C referenced memory at
0x0000000000000000. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program

I disabled 3D acceleration as per a post here to no effect.

RAM is really overprovisioned:
00:00:02.380321 Host RAM: 15731MB (15.3GB) total, 6103MB (5.9GB) available
00:00:02.548004 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000275800000 (10 561 257 472, 10 072 MB, 9.8 GB)
And Extension Pack doesn't match:
00:00:02.279520 VirtualBox VM 6.1.36 r152435 win.amd64 (Jul 19 2022 21:51:27) release log
00:00:02.381283 Installed Extension Packs:
00:00:02.381317 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 6.1.32 r149290; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP)
Try rebooting the host, then fixing these settings, and see what happens. If the VM crashes again, please post a new log.

I vaguely remember that crash from the past, and I'd suggest to use the current VirtualBox 6.1.48 and the matching VirtualBox Guest Additions 6.1.48.

Hi,

So i got round to reducing the RAM and adding the latest extension pack about a week ago. Was stable all week. Crashed this morning.

I have attached the log file again. Thanks for the previous replies. A week between crashes makes it usable, but obviously suboptimal.
