I'm having trouble with 3d acceleration

Post by ashenfirefox »

Windows 10 host, Windows 10 guest. Version 7.0.4 r154605 (Qt5.15.2)

I checked "Enable 3d acceleration" in the settings, installed the Guest additions, and disabled Hyper-V.

But when I go to chrome://gpu, it says hardware acceleration is unavailable.

Here's a screenshot of the issue:

Why are you still using VirtualBox 7.0.4?

Have you tested that OpenGL acceleration works on the host? All VirtualBox does is make host acceleration available to the guest, via the OpenGL API. If the host has no OpenGL then neither does the guest.

I updated to 7.0.12 and it didn't fix the problem.

On the host, OpenGL is enabled and WebGL is Hardware accelerated.

I can confirm that I get the same output from Edge in a Windows 10 VM with 3D Acceleration enabled in VirtualBox 7.0.12 on a Linux Mint 20 host. In another setup on a macOS 10.13.6 host with VirtualBox 6.1.48, Edge in a Windows 10 VM with 3D Acceleration enabled shows most of the Graphics Feature Status as "Hardware accelerated". I know, apples and oranges. ;)

I'd suggest to create a ticket in the Bugtracker.

I installed Windows 11 with 3d acceleration enabled. Seemed to work until I added guest additions. Once 3d Acceleration is enabled, the system comes up with a black screen. Disabling resolves but the guest is very slow. Log attached Video graphics card is AMD Radeon Pro 5300M on a MacBook Pro 2019 model (intel) running Sonoma 14.3.1. 32GB memory 512GB storage. VirtualBox 7.0.14

Replying to my own post, 3d acceleration and Extension pack work with a linux guest.
