TCG2 Configuration not appear on Win 11 guest (VirtualBox 7.0.9r157775)
TCG2 Configuration not appear on Win 11 guest (VirtualBox 7.0.9r157775)
I have a log file and corrupted nvram file. It got corrupted when I force closed the VM because it hang. Now I have no option to use TPM and all my files under bitlocker are not accessible because I lost my recovery key. I hope there is a way to fix the nvram file so I could access the drive.
Who should I PM log and nvram? (I dont know if its possible on new account to PM somebody here, maybe if somebody write me first)

A VM log can be zipped and posted using the forum's Attachments tab. No need to PM.
I don't know if there is a way to fix the nvram file. Forum gurus can weigh in on that if there is a way.
You should be able to recover a relatively recent copy of your VM to restore from your regular host disk backups. Just move the damaged nvram file to another folder, then copy the nvram file from the backup to the VM folder where the damaged one was, and theoretically you should be back in business, if the nvram file was the source of the problem.

Added the log, its the log written after I run the corrupted VM with TPM at the moment.
Unfortunetly I deleted the one from when corruption happened.
I can provide nvram file for examination.
I tried to copy variables from corrupted nvram to fresh one but it didnt help, the bitlocked stopped appearing "Recovery password" but now the password dont work, propably because of wrong data in TPM.

I had no snapshot after installing Win 11 and turning on Bitlocker there. So if data in nvram is gone and not just unavailable to Virtualbox, than all my data is lost.scottgus1 wrote: ↑11. Re: TCG2 Configuration not appear on Win 11 guest (VirtualBox 7.0.9r157775)
If I understand the purpose of the nvram file in enabling a TPM, and the purpose of Bitlocker based on TPM is to make it so people can't get access to your data unless all the parts and passwords of the security model are present and matched, then the answer is, Yes your data is lost.
Putting together an nvram setting to match a known password could be possible; it's for gurus to say, not me.
But no backups was a bad idea when using encryption with important data. BTW snapshots aren't backups anyway. The backup you would have needed was a file copy of the whole VM folder while the VM was fully shut down not save-stated, and then file-compare the copy with the original to confirm the copy's integrity, and repeated on at least two separate backup media. Then, assuming you had a backup from last week, and the TPM stuff was the same, you'd simply copy the backed up nvram file over the damaged original and Bob's your uncle.

FWIW, VirtualBox 7.0.12 uses libtpms-0.9.6. I think the change from 0.9.0 to 0.9.6 happened between VirtualBox 7.0.6 and 7.0.8.

Just to let you know, we're not ignoring this topic. But you're digging into things that most of us probably aren't conversant with (me being the least), so you may be on the forefront of the fix, or may have to wait until someone who is conversant happens along.
