(SOLVED) shared folder without permissions on Windows host and Linux Mint guest

Post by kesepian »

Hello,
I have installed Linux Mint 21.2 x64 in VirtualBox on a Windows 10 x64 host.
I can not manage to open and use the shared folder at all and I would need some guidance.
I get the message „You do not have permissions necesary to viw the contents of sf_w7shared”.

VirtualBox version 7.0.10 r158379 (Qt5.15.2) and the same Extension Pack.
I also installed the Guest Additions in Linux Mint.

Looks like Guest Additions and a shared folder are set up. Check that your Linux OS user is a member of the "vboxsf" group.

One thing I see in the setup of the shared folder:
Host path 'C:\Users\DesignsByOvi\Documents\w7shared', map name 'w7shared', writable, automount=true, automntpnt=H, create_symlinks=false, missing=false
According to the manual:
Folders are mounted under the /media directory. The folder name is normalized (no spaces, slashes or colons) and is prefixed with sf_.
So you should look for a folder:
/media/sf_H

Thank you so much for your reply.
All I did was to add my user to the vboxsf group and everything worked ok.
Thank you!
