NAT didn't work. guest gets dns-answers but gatew didnt work

Post by cakruege »

Hi,

host Vista SP1 with vbox 2.04, guest wxp sp3.
vbox configured to NAT, guest gets all infos from dhcp.

Resolving DNS-Names works, accessing the host too but internet access not.

Any ideas?

greetings

How do you access internet? Using ping? That won't work. Open your browser to get on the web.

Give more info as we ask in the Forum Posting Guide if you have any more issues.

Thx. Found the entry in manual

ICMP would be nice, maybe a little extensions that runs with root privileges and does the icmp stuff. Virtualbox communicates with the extension and runs with user privileges.

The reason PING doesn't work is because it runs in NAT. See Wikipedia what that means. In short, the Host gets the replies, but never send any of those requests and drops them before VB can get them.

The reason is explained in the manual. NAT is not the problem itself.
