windows xp & windows 2000 are super slow

Post by Exorcist »

I have same problem. On Windows 7 I've been using VBox 6.. and virtual XP run fine. When I moved to Windows 11 and VBox 7.0.8, Linux machines run with no problem,
but W XP which I wanted to install from ISO just froze keep saying reamin 39 minutes till the complete installation. Itwas like this for an hour using 40% CPU power and over 8 GB of RAM.

I have also .ova file of W XP so I tried to import that one and it is not possible to get over Welcome screen of XP.

So I went back to VBox 6 versions - same problem.
No error report, just toooooooo slow, never get to XP desktop.

Adding Vbox log.

You don't mention 2000 like the original topic you posted in mentioned, only XP, which is why you do not hijack other threads, create your own.

One big possible problem that Windows 7 didn't have:
00:00:02.006574 HM: HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM: AMD-V is not available
The host Hyper-V subsystem is enabled. See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active).

Other issues:
00:00:02.006360 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000200000000 (8 589 934 592, 8 192 MB, 8.0 GB)
00:00:02.006357 EnablePAE <integer> = 0x0000000000000000 (0)
Your XP is very likely 32-bit, so it will not see more than 4GB of this 8GB allocation, and very likely less than 4GB. You can reduce this t o4 at most, unless you have special software in the XP OS that gives access to more RAM than 4GB. And with PAE turned off, that extra RAM may not be accessible.
00:00:02.006359 NumCPUs <integer> = 0x0000000000000004 (4)
More CPUs in a VM actually slows down the VM due to extra scheduling oversight on the host. Only when you have multi-processor-aware 3rd-party apps in the VM that can use several processors will the extra processors be useful. XP runs swimmingly on two processors. (If you originally installed XP with only one processor, setting more than one processor won't be seen by the XP OS. Inquire about this if you did install with only one processor in the VM.)

So, I have changed settings of machine to 1 CPU and 3,5GB RAM
than did:
- memory integrity off
- DeviceGuard via gpedit - off
- regedit - \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceGuard\Scenarios\SystemGuard - all "0" values
- bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
- shutdown -s -t 2

And XP machine started in 3 seconds.

Thanks a lot for so detailed help !!

Only thing which I do not understand is Secure core. I did not find anything like that in BIOS and not sure for what else should I look for.
