Logs too big

Post by Alys »

I have zipped the log files and they are still too big to attach (340KB). I just ran a couple of file transfers after starting the VM and zipped the log file using 'send to, compressed zip folder'. Any ideas on how to compress this file further?

Files plural? We don't need plural - a single complete log is enough.

In addition to Mpack's thought, If your VM has been running since the Flood of Noah :D , then the log may be too big to post even when zipped.

It could also be that your particular situation or logging level causes an extreme amount of logging messages.

Please try this:

Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see or can make the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. In the "Logs" subfolder, zip the VM's "vbox.log", and post the zip file, using the forum's Attachments tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions so you can find the "vbox.log", not "vbox.log.1", etc.)

If the zip file is still too big, you'll have to post it on a file sharing site and post the link here. Please pick a file sharing site that does not put pornographic smut around the download link, and one that does not require login to access the file.
