It looks like the part of the error message before "/build/virtualbox" is cut off. There could have been a CAPITALIZED_UNDERSCORE_SPACED_ERROR in the error message that may tell us better what was going on.

However, if both your VMs have the problem now and the bad shutdown was the physical host PC, it could be that the Virtualbox install got bunged.

Technically, the 6.1.38_Ubuntu install you have is Ubuntu's fork, and they support their forks. But if you try to uninstall/purge Virtualbox from your host, then reinstall it from the Ubuntu repository, you may get back to working Virtualbox. I don't know if they'll offer you the 6.1.38 version, though. 7.0 has been in development and bug-hunting for a little while, and you may want to stay with 6.1.

You could also uninstall/purge/reboot, run the prerequisites https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02. ... nux-prereq then try official 6.1 from https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/ or https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds

Your VMs will remain behind ready for the new install.
