Thanks for the log files. Your issue is probably related to #21769 (Cannot install/upgrade to VirtualBox 7.0.10 on Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 (x64)). In your case, the installation process crashed instead of displaying the misleading error message about a missing Microsoft Visual C++ 2019 Redistributable that is already installed.

Unfortunately, the VirtualBox developers do not intend to investigate the issue, because Windows 7 as a host OS is not supported any more in VirtualBox 6.1, 7.0 and newer.

I wonder if uninstalling Windows 7's SHA256 update KB4474419, then the VC Runtime, then reinstalling the update then the runtime might knock things loose for Virtualbox.

Alternatively, I've seen Windows 10 license up using Windows 7's product key, so a host OS upgrade may be free-ish, if the PC can handle it.

Sorry for the late response. I have tried, but without success.

I also don't quite understand why Windows 7 is no longer supported, there are no updates until the end of 2024.

Maybe it's time to test other things like qemu and vmware.

In the meantime, the issue should be fixed in the VirtualBox test builds 7.0.13r160164 and newer.

Embedded OS's are likely to be used by OEMs for dedicated and unchanging devices, which have more financial swing with Microsoft. Not by the average Joe with a commodity PC and a free hypervisor.

Windows 7 still is legacy supported as a VM. https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03. ... tossupport

Windows 7 isn't used by most business users anymore in regular PCs, and business users drive Virtualbox development.

It is unlikely business users would try to run a 3rd-party hypervisor on any embedded system.

All of these should show why Windows 7 is no longer a supported host OS for Virtualbox.

However, the devs have shown interest in keeping Windows 7 alive when an issue appears.

But that only means guests and not a host system.

Then I'll test it soon.

So the version VirtualBox-7.0.13-160767-Win works for me again.
