[Solved] Installercrash at 7.00.10 in Windows 7 Pro (VirtualBox-7.0.14-161095-Win.exe works again)

Post by blackcrack »

Hi,

the actual installer, crash at an installpoint,
no clue what it is, it crash and become a bluescreen,
i have updated up to 7th month 2023 with Windows Embedded update packs
from Windows Update Catalog

but this can not be the problem, because all other works
also other installs ... so, with no bluescreen...

i have take the WinNT packets from :
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.0.10/

i have tried twice, both was a bluescreen at Win7Pro Workstation
with a ramdump, what i have beaked with a reboot
via 1/0 pressed Key at the Computer for done a could reboot...

then have i started a VBox 7.00.08 Win7Pro
and have test it again look by self :
https://blackysgate.de/files/folder-roo ... 0.0.10.jpg <= Right Mouse open in a new Tab/Window
https://blackysgate.de/files/folder-root/VBox/

what do you mean ?

best regards
Blacky

Windows 7 hosts stopped being supported a considerable time ago, in fact on the release of 6.1.0.

You could try this, but as Mpack says, Virtualbox 7.0 isn't supported on Windows 7 hosts, and especially so Embedded hosts, so no guarantees.

Make a new folder on your C drive to put the Virtualbox installer and the log it will make:
C:\VBinstall

Put the installer in the new folder. Open a Run-As-Admin command prompt. Drag-n-drop the installer on the Command Prompt window, then finish typing this in the command line:

"C:\VBinstall\VirtualBox-X.Y.Z-######-Win.exe"{space}--logging{space}--msi-log-file{space}"C:\VBinstall\textfile.txt"

So, as an example, for 6.1.36 it should've read:

"C:\VBinstall\VirtualBox-6.1.36-152435-Win.exe" --logging --msi-log-file "C:\VBinstall\msilog.txt"

Your version's numbers will be different, but you should follow the same pattern.

Also find this file:
C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log

Zip and post both logs using the forum's Attachments tab.

Thanks for the logs! Regrettably, I can't find what may be wrong in them. Please leave the log up on your server until a forum guru can look into this.
