VM Monterey install freezes when I use more than 2 cpus

Hello,

I installed Monterey earlier and it was extremely slow and eventually freezes. I decided to use 4 cpus instead of 2 but now the install freezes at "1 minute remaining". I tried multiple times but no luck. Can I please get some help? Thanks!

Please post a session log. This will show the VM settings. Monterey will run under VirtulBox, but there are a couple of quirks in getting it to work.

I'm trying the install again. It has 12 minutes left but here is the log so far.

So far the last line of the log says "TM: Giving up catch-up attempt at a" then some numbers. Never saw code say it was giving up. Had a good laugh.

Increase videoram to 128MB. You have only assigned 16MB which is not enough.
Decrease CPU count to 2 - you can always increase it after the install is complete.

This shows the extradata settings I am using for Big Sur and Monterey. To apply these settings to your configuration (VM name) use:

Code: Select all

vboxmanage setextradata "VM name" "<setting>" "<value>"

It means your host is really slow for some reason, particularly the disk drive. Be careful with resource usage and whatever else you have running beside the VM.

For example, on a 6 core host I would not be assigning 4 cores to guest code. Not that VirtualBox is host code, not guest code.

Thanks for the responses! I'm going to go back to 2 cpus suggested by granada29. Hopefully I can get it more responsive soon.
