error E_INVALIDARG 0x80070057

Post by Gabo89 »

Best regards, could someone help me with this error after adding a kali linux installation to my machine that I had not used for several months but had not presented this problem to me.
When I connect any USB device, it doesn't recognize it and I get this error, I already have the guest additions installed.
I appreciate any help.

Carefully go through USB basics and troubleshooting. If you finish all the steps 1-7 and cannot get your USB device into the guest OS, carefully post the outputs of the commands in step 8 as text, not screenshots. Zip and post the logs step 8 call for, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thank you for answering, I can't solve the problem, before it did not happen to me, I have even tried with an older version of Virtualbox and the fault persists. I attach the record from Virtualbox Manager and the Vboxsvc.log

Those weren't all of what you were asked to give:

Thanks for the information.

According to the information you've posted, you have not tried step 4 in the tutorial, about making a properly-configured USB filter in the VM's USB settings. Curiously enough, step 8 tells you to do this, so we're still not following instructions.

Please try step 4.

I have tried option 4 adding filters and I have the same problem. There is no solution, it is as if it tried to connect to the virtual machine but did not complete the connection. The USB device is being connected directly to the USB port. This failure is very rare since it is not the first time that I use VirtualBox -- it was never necessary to add filters or additional configurations for the guest system to recognize my devices.
If there is the possibility that you contact me by internal message, perhaps to connect remotely and review the problem, that would be great.

Please upgrade to 6.1.42, then once step 4 is in place, provide all the step 8 data again.

Best regards, I found the solution and I'll share it with you in case it happens to someone else.
It turns out that an entry with the name (UpperFilters) is created in the Windows registry.I still don't know why that entry was created, but I suppose it was due to installing a program that contained various drivers for mobile devices, and even if said program has been uninstalled, that entry in the registry is not eliminated by itself, you have to do it manually.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
UpperFilters

What I did was delete that entry, but first I made a restore point for safety.
In my case it was not necessary to install (Install virtualbox USB driver manually) - It just worked for me without that step.

I leave the complete solution and I thank its author and to the person who in this forum tried to help me.

steps followed.

1. first of all, edit your registry

- Open the Windows registry, by clicking on Start > Run and typing regedit
- Navigate to the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
- In the right hand panel, if the the UpperFilters entry exists, then delete it

2. Install virtualbox USB driver manually.

- Goto folder C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\USB\filter
- Click right mouse button on file named VboxUSBMon.inf
- Check Install(I) (maybe.. My window is korean so it dose not exact. )

3. Rebooting

4. Unplug your USB memory (or joystick..)

5. Open VirtualBox and Close it rightly.
( it will remove your USB device from VM's seized list. )

6. Plug your USB memory.

7. Open VirtualBox and Run Virtual Machine.

8. Click right mouse button on USB icon placed in status bar which is below VM window.

9. Check USB device what you want to plug in.
