2.0.4 Guest Additions Hangs in Windows Guest

Post by lotuschris »

Hi,

I have a Windows XP SP3 host with a Windows XP SP2 guest and every time I try to install the Guest Additions it hangs when installing the video driver. And this is after I've clicked "Continue Anyway" in acknowledgment of a non-WHQL driver.

My issue seems similar to this bug report: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/1201

In that bug report prtsoftware (last comment on the page) indicates the same problem in 2.0.2.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

Does this still happen if you temporarily set the the following to "Silently Succeed":
Run->gpedit.msc->"Windows Settings"->"Security Settings"->"Local Policies"->"Security Options"->"Devices: Unsigned driver installation behavior"

Note that gpedit is only available in XP Pro. XP Home does not support policies.

Home does not support policies.
In which case: Run->sysdm.cpl->Hardware->"Driver Signing"->Ignore
