When I try to install VirtualBox 2.04 on Windows Vista 64-bit, I get the error:
Sun xVM VirtualBox setup ended early because of an error.
I've had VirtualBox installed on Vista 64bit before, but I haven't been able to install it since I reformatted.
Has anyone else encountered this?

Hi,
please enable logging and attach the created log file to this thread. Here's an article how to do this:

I did encounter this problem.
Here is a brief synopsis that lead up to the problem.
Virtual Box 2.02 was still open when I tried to run the upgrade.
MSIinstaller gave me 2 errors before halting:
Product: Sun xVM VirtualBox -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2803. The arguments are: , ,

I rebooted the pc and tried to upgrade to 2.0.4 again which resulted in the error that is the subject of this discussion.
To remedy this, (purely by accident), I ran the 2.0.2 installer which asked me if I wanted to repair or remove 2.0.2. I chose repair.
It said that it successfully repaired my 2.0.2 installation.
I then ran the 2.0.4 install again and it ran successfully.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck,

Anyone have any possible solutions for this?

Looks to me like it's having a problem registering the virtualbox network drivers...
do you have UAC enabled? If so disable it and see if that helps.
IF not, I'd make sure there's not other oem nic drivers conflicting..

I do have UAC disabled. VirtualBox does not install even if I deselect the network drivers during the installation.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Disable and/or close unneeded programs. Disable your anti-virus and firewall (disconnect from the internet if you don't feel safe). Now try again.

I tried installing it again after I closed all possible background applications. I do not have any firewall or antivirus installed. It still failed with the same error.

Ok well I guess I'll just accept that VirtualBox doesn't work on my computer. Unfortunate, since it was the best free desktop virtual machine program in my opinion. I'll have to switch to VMware or something.

Have you tried out 2.0.6 yet? If this didn't help as well, do the following:
1. Enable logging if not done already (see
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/MSI_Logging)
2. Delete your "setupapi.log" file (usually in C:\Windows)
3. Run the VBox setup
4. On failure, attach the newly created "setupapi.log" and the MSI log from step 1 to this thread.
Thanks!

I tried out 2.0.6. I get the same error as in my original post above.
Here is my MSI log file:

The "setupapi.log" file is not present in my C:\windows directory.
