Running on Apple Silicon Mac M1 / ARM64 !

Post by Technologov »

* I have found the Big Elephant in the room -- VirtualBox-7.0.0_BETA1-153351-macOSAArch64.dmg -- basically support for ARM64/Apple Silicon Macs/ M1 chip ! (and perhaps even for Raspberry Pi/ARM64-Linux) -- basically "EmulatorBox" now :) -- definitely a real killer feature for Mac and All VirtualBox users ! Definitely worth v7.0 -- a major new version increment !

but the VM text/render is too small to be any useful to Macbook M1 due to it's Retina Display.

read it again !
VirtualBox 7 is capable of emulating x86 code on ARM64 / Apple M1 chip !
... meaning it's entire kernel-space, VirtualBox driver, vboxdrv, was re-written !

it reminds me ...
... ancient versions of Connectix VirtualPC were able to emulate Windows x86 on Mac OS X, PowerPC architecture 20-years ago ! Innotek Oracle VirtualBox is in many ways a direct descendent of Connectix Microsoft VirtualPC. (even same people worked on both !)
