Issue installing Parrot OS

Post by Harryc1127 »

I get an error whilst installing parrot OS.

Using Parrot Security 5.0.1 amd64
vBox version 6.1

As soon as I boot in I click on install parrot, go through the setup and it always gets stuck at 6% whilst unpacking the image.

Then I get the critical error message.

I have attached a screenshot of my settings, the log

I didn't run across a critical error image, but since the problem appears to arise while the image is unpacking, I'd suspect a bad download. Check the download against Parrot's integrity hashes.

The VM 'hardware' doesn't appear to have issues. I'd turn off 3D acceleration for now, until the OS is installed. Also, host RAM is tight for the VM's RAM settings. Try 4GB VM RAM.

In addition to scottgus1's suggestions, as ParrotOS is based on Debian, for testing I would also suggest you change the VM Template from Linux 64 to Debian 64 and give the VM 2 CPUs.

Just a brief aside, I have been creating several Debian 11.4 (Bullseye) VMs over the last few days (LXDE desktop), and it all worked fine - so IMO there is no fundamental reason why any Debian based distro should fail in VirtualBox 6.1.36.
