hard drive malfunction after install Xp in VB

Post by ff1esta »

hi. when i installed windows xp in VB , that should ocoured with no problem, the pc start to be very slow, and the instalation ended with a bsod, in the virtual machine.i made the instalation of the program in a second slave disc that has more free space and to not ocupie too much space in primary disc.because what happened i uninstalled the VB but the disc is the same too slow ,mainly when i open some file in that second disc.it seems that the disc isn´t working well,or too fragmented.any idieas of what happended? my sistem is a quadcore 6600 with 2 gb ram, thai is more than enouph tou run a vm.this is the second time that happens, tha other time was when i installed vista, but i used the VB with ever a more week pc and i have no problems(it was slow,of course).and in this pc (q6600)i allready had ubuntu, vista and xp, but now this error happened.the last time ,i had to format the pc,and that is a thing that i dont want now.

We need more information than you have given. For example, how much memory did you give the guest? (you have only told us that the host has 2GB). How large did you make the virtual disk?

Also, is your second hard disk ("slave disk" on the host) formatted for FAT or NTFS?

You are quite vague with your information. You mention a slave disk, first install went to BSOD, second install on different drive. There is no connection as to what goes where. I can only make up that the install of Windows as a VM Guest got a BSOD at the end of the install and that's about it. The rest is all jibberish.

Please write it down better and use proper punctuation. Use a space after a dot, start sentences with upper case, etc.

Sorry about my english,i´m portuguese. Lol, i explayn better. I have 2 discs. The first has 2 partitions, sistem in one, and my documents in the other. The second disc i have only emule and i installed the VB in this second disc, because has more free space. The problem was after i installed the windows xp in VB the disc start to be very slow, and ocoured a bsod in the instalation of the virtual xp. And the disc stay slow even after i uninstalled the VB and delete the vdi files.

Modedit: I fixed some punctuations here and there, try to do that yourself next time, I'm not a spellchecker.

By default, Virtualbox will save all settings and VMs to your user profile. Open a file browser and go to C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\.virtualbox and remove the files that you don't need. You can change the default VM location in the VirtualBox Preferences. Once you've done that, I'm sure that the install will work just fine.
