Session aborted when trying to start my VM

Post by rafflo »

Hi,

Today I couldn't start my VM after updating to the latest VirtualBox version(which it wanted me to download when I started VirtualBox). Now I have Version 6.1.36 r152435 (Qt5.6.2).

I uploaded the images of the error as well as the virtualbox log file. If anyone have some ideas what I can do try to fix this, please let me know.

If you read that box when it comes up again, you'll probably see that is merely telling you that a new version is available, not that you're enquired to install it to continue using Virtualbox. Official Virtualbox never forces or automatically does an upgrade.

Uninstall Virtualbox and reboot.
Go to "C:\Windows\System32\drivers", look for any files called 'Vbox*.sys' (there could be up to 5) and delete them.
Reboot again.
If you have any 3rd-party security or anti-malware software, disable the living daylights out of it for a moment.
Reinstall Virtualbox using right-click-Run-As-Administrator.

Will my current VM's be saved or do I need to export the ova's?

I've never heard of software that deletes data files when you uninstall it. VirtualBox certainly doesn't delete VMs.

Yes the VMs will remain. A good host backup is always a good idea, though.

Don't export. That changes the VMs to the OVF format and may deactivate licensed software in the VMs.

I solved the problem by downloading the latest extension pack from the official website. Thanks a lot for your help!
