Video Hardware Decoding

Post by Rangtian »

Hi,

I was wondering how to enable hardware decoding for youtube videos on firefox.

Guest Additions and 3D accelerations have already been enabled. However, Firefox still uses software decoding.

Version: 6.1.36
Host: Windows 11
Guest: Debian 11

Thank you.

The video 'hardware' in the VM is still only software. It doesn't use the host video card for raw crunching like the host can. 3D acceleration can pass certain 3D calculations to the host, but not a full video card experience.

Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.
