Hi all

PC config.
AMD 8-core CPU
RAM 32G
Hard drive-1
NVMe PCIe 3.0 1TB - Ubuntu 20.04 Host
Hard drive-2
500G SSD - Ubuntu desktop KVM
Hard drive-3
1TB SSD - Windows 10 (not used since its installation)

I'm prepared installing VirtualBox on Windows 10. This is my first time running Windows host. I wonder whether it would be better running Windows 11? Pls advise.

I can install Windows 11 on this 1TB SSD. The only additional work for me is to disconnect other hard drives before installation. It is for safety measure.

Win11 is not yet officially a supported host (check the 6.1.36 user manual). That said, I would have a little more confidence in Win10 because it's track record with VirtualBox is longer but, to my knowledge, Win11 works fine as a host, and indeed I used it as a host for a time myself, before switching back to Win10 for unrelated reasons (that turned out to be not Win11's fault anyway).

No, for a Windows host you download the Linux installer, or the Mac installer - anything except the installer labelled as being intended for Windows. Obviously.

The one labelled as a Windows installer is obviously intended for Linux.

That is a good question.

This is my 1st time installing VirtualBox on Windows host although I have been running VirtualBox on Linux hosts for years.

In case of problem I have to reinstall Windows 10. There are other 2 hard-drives on this PC. For safety measure I would disconnect them which requires opening the PC case, lot of work to be done therefore I have to clarify everything before start
