Is it possible to export an alliance WITH the snapshots? I'm about to delete a series of snapshots (cleaning things up) but I wanted to backup the current VM just in case I mess things up. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

No, exporting has to conform to the OVF standard. And the export/import process changes the VM's files, so export is not a good backup routine either.
Better to make a simple basic file copy of the VM folder, as well as any disk files stored outside the VM folder. You can also file-compare the backup with the original to confirm the backup. Confirming is not possible with export either.
