Hi,

I have had a really hard time with Network. It will not work. It started with the NAT giving a 10. IP but it would not route out

So I tried host: bridged, promiscuous, no firewall etc... Nothing... Actually worse than nothing. At times I lose my Vista Network and on a few occasions (when the Vista net fails) the OpenSolaris works.

Here is the setup (for NAT as it should just work):
Host: Vista 64 Ultimate
Guest: OpenSolaris 2008.05 x64
--- Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (NAT)
--- Device exists
xVM 2.0.2 x64
NAT

Host connected directly to INet with static IP. Guest obtains a 10.x IP but does not send any traffic.

VMWare also installed and running on the machine. Note VMWare does not play nice with xVM They can't run at the same time.

In host mode it is just bad and inconsistent. So very hard to troubleshoot. I remove the VMWare Bridge Protocol and Disable all VMWare Virt net devices. I give the guest (OpenSolaris using Physical:default NOT NWAM) a static routable IP like the host. This IP never shows up in the Vista Network

Please help the guest tools are working great in xVM for OpenSolairs. Guest tools are not working on OpenSolaris in VMWare.

Don't run two different virtualisation programs for one Guest, this will cause severe problems, especially for the Guest.

Guest tools from one program conflicts with and in the other program.

If you have no firewall on the Host, setting up NAT in Virtualbox will do just fine. You can access the internet from the Guest with it, but no machine will be able to access the Guest (after all, can you access you host from the internet?). This is by design for NAT networking.

Please read up on networking and how to set everything up before trying a crazy setup like this.

Sorry, so to clarify: the networking does not work with VMWare is installed on the same host machine? It could have saved me a lot of time if that were in a FAQ or bug report.

VMWare and xVM are both installed on the same host with different guests. Nobody is pointing to the same guest... And I did not expect the VM's to run at the same time; I down all the VMWare services when I try to bring up xVM. Both seem to work fine except for the networking in the xVM guest. VMWare was installed first.

I have other machines running xVM just fine with NAT and host net settings. A friend told me that he (thinks) he has VMWare and xVM running on the same machine and NAT worked just fine.
