Moving virtual machines from one computer to the other

Hallo,

my Laptop is dying a slow death but the SSD still works fine :-)
I would like to save my existing Virtual Machines so that I can continue work on the new computer.

Exactly what Virtual Machine files do I need to copy over to the new computer ? Do I need to merge all snapshots of a Virtual Machine before going on further ?

You get to decide which VMs you need. Certainly that isn't something any of us can know. However if you have any linked clones then the original VMs need to be moved and registered before the clones.

Then read Howto: Move a VM (manual method).

Looks like you misunderstood my question: "what Virtual Machine files do I need" refers to: is it only the .VDI file ? Or also the .VBOX file ? Is there some .XML file I will also need to save ? etc.
Plus, I do not want to move that stuff into another directory on the same computer. I will need to move it to ANOTHER computer.

Looks like you did not read the reference you were given! If you had read it, you would have read the advice to move the whole folder, not just bits of it. It makes no difference whether you are moving it to the same computer (such as after an OS clean install) or to a different one. If you move the whole folder you have everything you need.
