According to the Oracle site, Windows 11 does not appear to be a supported VirtualBox host environment.
I see several references on the forum of folks who are running a Windows 11 host.
I am trying to decide if I should upgrade my current host environment from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
Questions for the forum:
- Should I upgrade my host to Windows 11?
- What issues should I expect to run into?
- Is VirtualBox expected to eventually support Windows 11 as a host OS? If so, when?
I currently use VirtualBox to run several Ubuntu 20 desktop and server VMs.
Thanks
Gary

Re: Is Windows 11 a supported OS for a VirtualBox host?
11 is technically not yet supported as host or guest OS: https://docs.oracle.com/en/virtualizati ... pport.html https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Guest_OSes
However, such support is the goal toward which the devs press. Full 11 support as host or guest will probably not be until 7.0 is released, no date known yet. However, some have got 11 running as host and/or guest so far. And there are some things that can help 6.1 run 11. Registry changes are required to run 11 in a VM without a TPM, make a new topic so the forum gurus who have done this can help you.
Read through the Windows Hosts or Windows Guests forums to see what some have done. Or try something and ask in a new topic about any problem you have.

I wouldn't if I still need a working host. If I did want to try it, I'd physically pull out the host disk and install 11 fresh on a different host disk, only as experiment.garysclark wrote:Should I upgrade my host to Windows 11?

Re: Is Windows 11 a supported OS for a VirtualBox host?
Thanks for the info.
Very helpful.
I need a working host, so that's a no go on the upgrade to Windows 11 now.
Windows 10 support ends in October of 2025, so I have some time to wait for a VirtualBox version that supports Windows 11 as a host.
Just wanted to know that it was on the roadmap, or if I should be looking for another virtualization environment.
