Greetings All

What is the latest version of VirtualBox for a Windows XP Guest on a Windows 7 Host?

Where can I find this information in future?

Thanks.

All versions will run XP as a guest.

Version 6.1.x is no longer supported on Windows 7 hosts. 6.1.x may and probably does still work on 7 hosts, but bug fixing has stopped.

Anything 6.0.x and earlier will work on 7 hosts. 6.0.14 was a very stable version, and I still have it installed on my production 10 host. Other 6.0.x versions will probably work just fine as well.

Since 7 is in the past, it is unlikely that any of the above will change.

One question - I am running Version 5.2.44 on a Windows 10 host... clicking on File -> Check for Updates --- results in a pop up window telling me I have the latest version - which is incorrect .. why is this?

No idea. Perhaps it means that you have the latest version of the 5.2.xx product.

Perhaps it is the latest 32BIT version??

Perhaps. Perhaps not. Without going through the source code to find the nuances of the filtering done in the update checker, we would only be guessing.

Besides, the Virtualbox installer contains both 32- and 64-bit versions, and the bittedness installed matches the host OS. So you'd need to check if your 10 host is 32 or 64 to guess more accurately at what the update message means.
