For a schoolproject i have to work on a server with a group of classmates.
I have a server with Gui and a client installed in virtualbox.
I want to remote desktop into them publicly.
first of all i have to install using these commands:
sudo apt-get install xrdp
sudo adduser xrdp ssl-cert
but how can i set it up so i can remote desktop into them from outside my own network?
how should i set up my virtualbox, the vm's network settings?
should they set in nat open or bridged? how can i identify which ubuntu im rdp'ing?
ubuntu server and ubuntu client in virtualbox, want to rdp remotely into it

We can't help you with that.kanikarim wrote: but how can i set it up so i can remote desktop into them from outside my own network?
If you have the VM configured using bridged networking then the VM is a full participant on the same local network that the host Ethernet port is on. That will allow RDP from any device on your local network. Next step is to configure remote access into that network via the Internet. That is beyond the scope of the VirtualBox forums: I suggest that you Google for how to do the configuration.
Be warned that RDP access over the Internet to a domestic LAN is not always possible: you need the right kind of contract with your IP provider, and you need a router that supports port forwarding. Also most domestic IP assignment is dynamic: it potentially can change whenever the connection to the IP provider is reset. This also means that you can't be assigned a friendly URL, because you can't be assigned a permanent entry in a public DNS without a fixed IP.
Also: opening up your private LAN to the Internet raises a good many security questions which I hope you have considered, and any other people using that network have agreed to accept those risks.

Don't you have any Dynamic DNS providers in the UK?mpack wrote:This also means that you can't be assigned a friendly URL, because you can't be assigned a permanent entry in a public DNS without a fixed IP.

I'm aware that DDNS exists. I've never used it. I would be wary of the cost, and "what's in it for them?" from free providers.
A better option IMO would be to locate the server in the cloud, but that too likely costs money.

In Germany, I've been using the services of a free DDNS provider for many years now, and I'm happy to never have received any ads over the years. But perhaps I'm just lucky.
