Run Windows 10 on a Windows 7 machine?

Post by Hammertime »

Hi, I wonder if I can run Windows 10 64 bit on a Windows 7 64 bit machine with 206 GB's free on the primary drive? Is it advisable?
Thank you.

Plenty of room there for a 10 VM. Available RAM and host CPU capability are much more important, though.

Make a new 10 VM, don't even bother installing the OS. Just start the VM, let the 10 installer load up, then close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Then right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

The log will show the host capabilities, which will show how well it might handle a 10 VM

Thank you for replying scottgus1. The attached image shows what old Speccy says about CPU, RAM etc.

Hi, please update me 'cause I missed something - what zipped log?

PS: I live in Sweden, a different time zone so my replies will seem tardy - please bear with me;)

The log tells about more things than "old Speccy" does.

From you posting the Speccy screenshot it appears that you read the first line of my post. Why did you stop there? It is good to read and respond to the whole post.

@Hammertime,

Why not just try to install Windows 10? I would expect no problems.

If you do strike problems, tell us what they are (and send us a zipped log file).
