No USB at all

Post by stephanos »

I am using Windows 10 host and Kubuntu 20.04 guest.
The USB (in the guest) is not working. I have read a lot and done a lot as follows:
I have installed Extension Pack
I have installed Guest Additions:
mount the virtual disk in the optical drive
Use a console to navigate to “/media/stephanos/Vbox_Gas_6.1.30/”
run command:

Code: Select all

sudo ./VboxLinuxAdditions.run
However, when I insert a USB device in the host, no option appears in Devices > USB.
I shut down the guest and in VB (in the Windows Host) clicked: Machine > Settings > USB.
There were no USB devices in the white box. Also I clicked the Add new filter icons but no devices were listed.

I have read some help pages but they all refer to Linux hosts. I am a Windows host.

Any help appreciated

Merry Christmas

Carefully go through USB basics and troubleshooting. If you finish all the steps 1-7 and cannot get your USB device into the guest OS, carefully post the outputs of the commands in step 8 as text, not screenshots. Zip and post the logs step 8 call for, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Dear scottgus1

Wow that was a lot of information to follow up with. But it solved the problem. At 7.8 "If on Windows host, check that the VirtualBox USB Driver is installed in your host. Make sure your host didn't silently reject non-MS drivers (Google for Driver Signature Enforcement). Usually a re-installation of VirtualBox with the "right-click on the installer & Run-as-Administrator" trick, fixes this." I began to realise that this was a good option

It worked

Thanks
