VBox 6.1.30 - No longer a way to add a (physical) DVD/CD Host Drive?

Post by ohaya@yahoo.com »

Hi,

I haven't used VBox in awhile, and when I started, it said there was a newer version, so I downloaded and installed VBox 6.1.30 and the 6.1.30 extensions.

I have a USB stick that has a bootable image of a boot manager, Bootit Bare Metal, that I had been able to boot this same guest from before, as an Optical drive, as a "Host Drive G" before.

I wanted to boot that Windows 10 guest from the USB stick again, but now I notice that I can no longer select "Host Drive G" in the VBox Storage settings :(?

Is it still possible to do that, with VBox 6.1.30? And if so, how?

Thanks,
Jim

AFAIK, there has never been a version of VirtualBox that allows you to mount a USB drive as a CD. The filesystem would be completely wrong: USB drives do not use ISO-9660, as expected by the guest OS when you tell it this is a CD.

I have no idea what you would have done last time. Perhaps burn the contents to an ISO image. Perhaps just boot the VM and then attach the USB drive as a USB drive.
