Does VBox run better on a Windows host as opposed to Linux host?
"Shared Folders" do not operate properly on Linux hosts.

Both run Virtualbox just fine when the host OS is in good condition with not too many pebcak-induced tweaks.

Either host OS type can be tweaked to a point where something in Virtualbox can't work correctly. I am not as familiar with Linux as I am with Windows, but it strikes me from reading the Linux forums that Linux contains a lot more opportunity for such break-inducing tweaking.

A fresh-install of Linux sans tweaks should fully support all features of Virtualbox.

Another thing to consider: In your linked topic your host is running the Ubuntu fork of Virtualbox, which is supported by Ubuntu, not Virtualbox. Once someone forks a program the forker takes responsibility for the fork. So you'd either have to ask them or use official Virtualbox.

That is WHAT I tried .... no joy. I think VBox may only run correctly on Oracle's own version of Linux.

No, lots of other Linux host owners run Virtualbox just fine.
