Hello,

I first installed VBox on my computer when I had Windows 10. Then I upgraded it to Windows 11. By then I had Vbox version 6.1.14.

Last week I had an issue with Vbox and I tried to upgrade it to 6.1.30, without deinstalling the previous 6.1.14.

When I tried to do so, I was neither unable to install the new version, nor to deinstall the previous one. I had to do several manipulations and finally I succedded to deinstall version 6.1.14 in Windows protected mode ... a real pain.

Now, If I try to install 6.1.30 I have always the same error:
Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

I tried to see if it was a Microsoft issue. Tried a lot of things, including doing the verification to see if the Windows Installer system was corrupted or not, but everything was ok.

Another thing I tried is to install other programs, and I had no issue with them so far. Windows Installer is working fine

Normally this is fine.

This means your computer's MSI database was bunged. It happens, a lot. It is Microsoft, and a commodity computer.

This may be from the original bung-up, or the manipulations.

Please investigate these:
Basic troubleshooting steps for Windows Installer

• Repair MSI (Windows Installer) 2.8.8.
• Windows Repair 4.5.1 (includes the above).

At this point Virtualbox is not running yet. The Virtualbox installer is really a Microsoft program that happens to carry the Virtualbox payload. It works with the Windows MSI installer database. It appears that your MSI system is screwed up.

These other programs may not use the MSI system.

first of all, thank you very much for your help.

I tried the "Basic troubleshooting steps for Windows Installer" in the past, and it didn't work. I tried it again today, but still the same result. The problem with this one is that it asks me to select from several programs which one I am trying to install, but Virtualbox is not listed there. I selected then "Not listed", and the fix programs says goodbye.

Then I tried "Windows Repair 4.5.1", which I didn't knew. Tried this one on "Safe Mode". First I tried to repair only the MSI functionality, rebooted, but then the result was the same than that on my original post. Next tried all repairs. Took a while, then rebooted, tried to install virtualbox, but then the same result again.

Isn't there anything else I could do to debug the problem? I tried to check Window's event viewer logs, but they don't seem useful.

I tried another thing this time, and the installation process could progress a little bit more than the one on my original post.

This time I tried to install virtualbox in safe mode. Attached you will find the installation log.

This time the log file says: Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Oracle VM VirtualBox 6.1.30. Product Version: 6.1.30. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Oracle Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603.

OK, thanks. The log reports trouble installing Virtualbox's USB tie-in. Do you have a USB filtering or scanning software installed?

Uninstall Virtualbox again and reboot.

Then go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, and look for any .sys files starting with 'Vbox'. There could be up to 5 files. Delete them if you find them.

Then disable AV real-time scanning, if you are using 3rd-party Antivirus or security software. Windows' built-in Defender AV does not have to be disabled, as Defender does not interfere with Virtualbox.

Then try the install again by right-clicking the installer and choose Run As Administrator.

If the install fails again, please post the log again.

Done ... and it didn't work . Follows the log..

Sorry for the delay getting back to this topic, I forgot about it.

Looks like your host is still throwing trouble over Virtualbox's USB system. Try turning off the USB option in your next Virtualbox install attempt, see if it succeeds.
