Windows XP Guest & McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i

I am new to virtualbox and am really enjoying it's functionality and performance. I do have an issue though.

If I install McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i on a Windows XP SP3 Guest, my guest completely locks up once the VSE services start. I have tested this by booting into safe mode, using the registry to set the services to manual and rebooting normally. Everything runs fine until I manually start the services. Once I do, the guest freezes.

Anyone else have this issue? I have never had this issue with VSE using VMWare. Maybe somehow related to IO APIC? I have it disabled (default?)

I had the exact same problem and couldn't get it to work at all. I'm running WindowsXP SP2 with McAfee VSE 8.5i. It would always freeze whenever it started the McAfee Framework Service.

I just broke down and started using AVG. It's a free anti-virus software that works great with XP/VirtualBox. It does a good job keeping that vbox clean and it's nice because the price is right.

Good luck to you.

If McAfee needs any version of MS .NET Framework, that might be the problem. Some .NET apps won't work properly in VB.

I've tried Patch 8, and VS 8.7. None of them work. Freezes up at the exact same place.

Since this is reproducible maybe you should post a ticket with bugtracker (click the link below my post). You will need to setup an account there because it is different then here.
