Intermittent freezing on guest OS

Post by sgt_b »

Hi everyone,

Got a bit of a problem and it seems that others might be having the issue as well. I'm running an Intel Core2 Duo T7250 and when running a guest (any guest) I get issues where the guest screen will freeze completely, and it won't refresh unless I pull down a menu from the Virtualbox main window (clicking on Machine or Devices redraws the screen).

Host info:
Gentoo 2.6.26-r1 (same thing happens on 2.6.25-r7)
2GB Ram (512 assigned to guest)
Virtualbox 2.0.2

Here are some previous threads that talk about what appears to be the same issue:
http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=2521
http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=9695
http://vbox.innotek.de/pipermail/vbox-u ... 03017.html

I've tried everything in those links
- disabling Windows ACPI
- Running nohz=off at boot
- loading module with force_async_tsc=1
- combination of the above

None of these things seem to work and I still get the freezes. *Sometimes* the guest runs perfectly fine with no freezes. I've tried to determine what causes it to work fine, but it really appears "random". If it matters, I've also installed VMWare-Server 1.0.6 and the problem does *not* exist.

Any ideas? I can post VBox.log if needed (its like 1200 lines so if theres a specific section needed I can pull that out).

Thanks!

P.S. - Running the OSE version
