Problem with Network in Windows Vista

Post by Gonzalo »

Hello I install virtualBox in a Windows Vista, and then I install debian 4.0 as guest.

I need to put them in the same network becouse I have to share some folders, I can't get this working I setup the VB as VirtualBox Interface Host 1, then I setup in the interfaces file in debian as a 192.168.1.x IP (static) and I can't see the Windows Vista, and from the Windows Vista I can't see the linux machine. I read the manual but I can't find the problem, some help?

Thanks

we need a bit more information..

what version of virtualbox?
what mode do you have the network connection set to in your virtualbox setup?
did you create a network bridge on your host?

I am using the 1.5.2 VB.

In my VB I have setup the network to VirtualBox Host Interface I

Then I try to create the bridge in my Windows Vista but I don't know if I do it right, then from my debian I don't know what the configuration must be in /etc/network/interfaces

If you tell me that a newer version of VB is better I can install it.
How I must to proced to configurate the network?

Thanks very much!

Do you want to access your Guest files from the Host, or access your Host files from the Guest? If it's the latter, you can install the Guest Additions. See the manual for setup and configuration. It's also described in the Forum FAQ.

My Host is Windows Vista and my Guest Linux, I have to access to the linux from Windows and copy some files (from windows to linux), how can I do it? I open VirtualBox and I click on Install Guest Additions but nothing happend.

If there is a simple way to configure the windows and linux to put them into the same network I can share the files with samba.

thanks again

For the Guest Additions and Shared Folders, refer to the manual. It's all described there. It also describes how to set up HIF (Host Interface) networking. There are quite a few topics here that have information about that too.
