version 2 lacks updated features on 2 different win machines

Post by H-D2 »

The Sun folks insisted the USB and networking issues from ver 1.x were solved with 2.x ... but I don't see it.

I have installed ver 2.x on both a vista laptop and a 32-bit desktop. Both are AMD chips.

I do not have permission to enable the USB ports, even as the Admin.

Networking doesn't work.

There either is no shared folder or I can't find it [and I separately tried to configure it].

At first I wondered if having an older version had confused the install, but the desktop was a new install and exhibits exactly the same problems.

Any ideas??

I saw one post that suggested there were actually 2 versions of 2.x so I wonder if I got sent down the wrong path.

I forgot to mention that the desktop is XP SP3 with 1 GB. Its a Compaq tower that is about 4 years old.

The notebook is under a year old and has a dual core chip with 2 GB of RAM.

H-D2 wrote:Yep.... I have two different installs of 2.0.2 and neither one has USB drives allowed. Neither has working networking either.

I can't use it to move files between my win host and my linux VM.

Oh, there are no shared folders either, even after trying to config one.

A = Vista laptop with 2 GB
B = XP 3 desktop with 1 GB

Any ideas for all of these problems??

Are there multiple versions of 2.x for Win??
H-D2, Welcome to our forum. You might want to take this opportunity to browse the Forum Posting Guide. This contains some useful tips on how to search for VBox knowledge and how to frame Qs. Please don't cross post. I have deleted your duplicate. It's a lot easier if you just answer Sasquatches Qs then we can help you.

Oops, sorry Sasquatch I just deleted your response instead of H-D2 duplicate post. Window trouble. Sorry again. Let me see if I can recall the content.

1) have you enabled USB support in you VM properties.
2) what network device are you using for XP? The simplest way is to use the Intel NIC + NAT.
3) Have you loaded Guest additions.

The latest version is 2.0.2
