Using 'unknown' USB devices

Hi,

I've recently upgraded from VirtualBox 1.5.6 to 2.0.2.

I'm running a Vista host, and I've got an XP guest. As the scanner I have is rather old, it doesn't have any vista drivers; and I use my virtual xp machine whenever I want to scan something.

Prior to upgrading to 2.0.2, the list of USB devices available for capture would include an Unknown Device (which would be the scanner). I would select this, and the scanner would be available for use in the guest.

However since upgrading, I can no longer see the Unknown Device under the list of devices for capture. I can, however, see it under Device Manager in my Vista Guest. Is there some sort of option somewhere to include unknown devices in the capturable USB devices?

Thanks.

I don't know. I have an XP SP3 machine and it sees my BT adapter as an unknown device too in VB 2.0.2. So they are listed. What filter did you set? Try it with an emtpy filter, being able to grab every USB device on your system.

Ok. Thanks for letting me know it should work. I tried again today, and (rather strangely) my vista host won't even pick up my scanner in the device manager. So maybe the problem is with the scanner/host.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking some hidden setting or something. By the way, is your XP SP3 the guest?

Both. Guest and Host. If you would attach your scanner after your VM started, then it would be grabbed by VB automatically, showing only a VBox USB device in your device manager. You can then select the device from the USB menu item.
