Linux will not start on Windows Vista 64 Host

Hallo
I have a Problem with my Linux Virtual Maschines.
I have Windows Vista 64 Ultimate installed on my computer.

Bevore that i had a Windows Xp Host.
After installing the new Virtual Box 2.0 the Linux Distries wont work anymore.

I testet all Distries i know with the same results.
After booting into the first choice screen whrere you can boot your linux, the linux distries turn into a black window and than they are standing still.

I testet Knoppix, Ubuntu, Suse Linux 11 and many others with the same resulsts.

Maybe you know what kind of setting i have to do on my virtual box so that my virtual maschines will work again.

Michael,

Welcome to the forums..

If you could let us know what version of virtualbox you are using and if it's the 32bit or 64bit edition.

Also, post the log file of one of your virtual machines.

Looks to me the guest can't find any bootable media.

I would check and see if your controller type is set to PIIX4. If so, try changing it to PIIX3

Also, check if your ACPI and APIC settings where changed at all.

Make sure your Virtual HD is also correctly specified.

32 vs 64 bit conflict??

I wonder if this is just not an incompatibility with my Vista home (32-bit) host although the processor itself is Athlon-64. I could not install the virtual box 64 bit edition.

OS support != CPU support. Even though your CPU has 64 bit extensions, a 32 bit OS will never be able to read or execute those binaries. Keep the programs the same as your Host is, so 32 bit Host = 32 bit apps; 64 bit Host = 64 bit apps.

Thanks, changing the controller to PIIX3 did the trick. If you don't mind me asking, why did that fix it? Is it related to Fedora 10 being a beta release at this moment?

EDIT::

I don't think that this is a VB problem per se, but just throwing it in. When I booted it, I got a pretty dead X display but the compiz preview shows something different. Is there a way I can upload the screenshot to show what I mean?
