Can I put VB on its own dedicated NIC?

Post by phases »

Hey guys. I'm some trouble getting vb to do what I want - but I'm also fairly new to linux in general so maybe what I'm trying to accomplish is easy and I'm just not seein' the solution yet.

I've been messing with vb networking. If I create a **bridge I can get it to work the way I want, but I have to redo it every time I restart. I tried to put it all in a startup script - but that seems to break networking on my host machine, though vb works. Which I don't get.

Then I thought I would try to get it to make a bridge dynamically like the documentation shows but that looks pretty intimidating. Which I dont' mind trying to figure out but first, I had a thought:

Can I not give it it's own nic that pulls from DHCP when the the guest starts up, and leave a dedicated nic for my host as well? I have multiple in my machine.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yeah I used the search. It pulled up tons of results. I looked through them for a while.

I was hoping I'd get a more helpful response and get some hands on help rather than "Use the seach" and have to sift through 100 threads - half of which I've seen while trying to google my problem for the past two days - and still to no help.

But I figured it out on my own - which is probably better for me anyway. I'd explain how I did but, eh, I seem to have lost motivation to try to be informational. So for the next guy who needs help with this - Use the search.

Yeah. Thanks. Gotta love all that open source/linux "community support" I keep reading about.
