Hi...
I have a problem: Host W10 Guest XP - - Guest can not see the host...
They can ping each other.
added SMB 1,0/CIFS Client, that made W10 see the XP, but I can not make XP see W10
Anyone, can help?
thanks

Re: Host W10 Guest XP - - Guest can not see the host
Please provide these three things:
1. Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose "Show in Explorer". In the window that opens, zip the VM's .vbox file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. (Please make sure all file extensions are shown on the Windows host, so you will be able to see the .vbox extension easier.)
2. Inside the host OS's command window, run 'ipconfig /all' and post the text output here on the forum.
2. Inside the VM OS's command window, run 'ipconfig /all' and post the text output here on the forum.

Thanks for responding !
Sorry, the IPconfig data is in Hungarian... as the XP is a Hungarian version...

Re: Host W10 Guest XP - - Guest can not see the host
Thanks for all the data. Your VM is connected via Bridged, and appears to be getting an IP address from your host computer's network correctly. Since ping works, the network appears to be set up well.
If you want real shared folders from Windows 10 seen in XP, I believe that "file and printer sharing" needs to be turned on in XP. I no longer remember how to do that, you might have to web-search it. There might be other things to do in 10 besides activating SMB 1, see what a web-search says.
If you want "Virtualbox Shared Folders" so files can be copied back and forth between 10 and XP without using the network, you have to install Guest Additions in the guest. See the Virtualbox manual section 4.
I surmise that this means the guest cannot see the host's shared folders, because you activated SMB 1 in Windows 10.Attila-H wrote:Host W10 Guest XP - - Guest can not see the host...

Ok, thanks !
The file and print sharing is enabled already....
I will check on the Guest Additions !
Thanks for the idea !

Guest Additions sharing is your best bet. XP too old to share files with Windows 10 using Windows file and print sharing. XP can share with Windows 7 with no problems, but not Windows 10.
