Virtual bow Ubuntu does not start correctly

Post by rachna94 »

Hello,
I've been using Ubuntu 20.04 on Virtual Box for a few months now with no issue on Windows. However, there has been a connexion issue for a few days now, I've been having only this as interface and not the regular Ubuntu interface. Anyone had the same issue?
Also, I have this error message on the log:
00:02:41.570073 ERROR [COM]: aRC=E_FAIL (0x80004005) aIID={872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed} aComponent={ConsoleWrap} aText={Could not mount the media/drive 'C:\Users\rbhoonah\Downloads\ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso' (VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED)}, preserve=false aResultDetail=-2815

Please provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

The VERR_PDM_ERROR (which can't happen on a VM that isn't already running) happens with Linux guests when you try to insert a CD into a drive that already has a CD in there. Linux requires you to eject the old CD first. The VirtualBox dialog usually offers you a "force eject" button.

This VM has been running for months you say? It doesn't look like it, the configuration is terrible!
00:00:04.698798 NumCPUs <integer> = 0x0000000000000001 (1)
00:00:04.698806 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000080100000 (2 148 532 224, 2 049 MB, 2.0 GB)
00:00:04.699418 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000001000000 (16 777 216, 16 MB)
You have 23GB RAM available on the host, so I don't see a good reason for these choices. I'd increase CPU cores to 2, increase RAM to 8GB (8192MB), enable 3D acceleration and increase graphics RAM to 256MB.

You might also wish to install the host Extension Pack.

Thanks, I tried the different changes (except for the VRAM which can only go to max 128 GB) but it still gives the same start page and not the Ubuntu desktop. And yes, despite the terrible configuration it had been running for 2 months!

That's why I said to enable 3D acceleration first (and of course it's MB, not GB).
