OK you have my sympathy but you aren't going to get any useful advice until you provide us with basic data to go on: Base H/W, Host OS config (more then just XP), Guest OS (which version of Ubunbu; 386 / AMD64) , VBox version, VM configuration, ... We don't run a psychic service!

Something just as useful -- next time you open the VirtualBox GUI, click on one of the VMs that has aborted, and click on the menubar: Machine -> Show Log... (CTRL+L).TerryE wrote:OK you have my sympathy but you aren't going to get any useful advice until you provide us with basic data to go on: Base H/W, Host OS config (more then just XP), Guest OS (which version of Ubunbu; 386 / AMD64) , VBox version, VM configuration, ...
You should have several logs. When a machine aborts, the log file will contain the reason why. Look for a line near the bottom of the log, perhaps it says something like "!!Assertion Failed!!". But it should be relatively obvious that it is logging an error of some sort. Let us know what it says.

Stéphane, that's in the case where the VBox VMM fails. The other class of failure is that the Guest OS itself might be failing, in which case the VMM will produce a VBox.log which just shows normal shutdown. Without any detailed error messages we may as well resort to a crystal ball.stephanecharette wrote:Look for a line near the bottom of the log, perhaps it says something like "!!Assertion Failed!!".
