Can anyone point me in the right direction?

My native resolution is 2560 x 1440.

System specs are strong enough to run a virtual machine easily.

No clue why it keeps changing itself back to 800x600 immediately.

I've tried across several distros, some of them it goes back to 800x600 immediately, others it applies a higher resolution for a short period of time, minutes, and then goes back to 800x600.

Kali was the only one that did the full 2560x1440 and seemed to keep the settings. I don't want to run Kali as my main distro though. I want Kubuntu.

More processors slow down a VM due to extra scheduling cycles needed on he host PC. Drop processors to 2 until you install 3rd-party programs that require more throughput than 2 processors can make. Most modern OS's will run fine on 2 processors.

For full screen-size control, Guest Additions are required in the VM. Many distros pre-install the distro's fork of Guest Additions, which may not be compatible with official Virtualbox.
