Guest Addition Button does not work

Post by spamnchips »

I have installed a couple of Linux Guest on a WIndows XP host. If I open up a VM and try to "install Guest Additions" nothing happens. This feature works OK on my Linux Box when running Windows Guests. Is this known about ?

It only mounts the ISO for you. You have to run the command to install the GA manually.

It caught me out by taking quite a long time. I had mounted the ISO but it took ages for the software to do whateever it does before the installation window popped up.

Did you read the manual for instructions as how to install the GA in Linux Guests? Mount the ISO from within VB, mount the CD in the Guest and use a terminal to install the GA as root.

Sorry to bother the "experts", but where do I get the "ISO"?

I am running a PCLinuxos variant guest in VB on an XP laptop host.
The VB installer was a .MSI package, and the only ISO I
have is my Linux guest os, which doesn't have any "guest additions"
Pressing "guest addition" on the VB menu does not do anything.

Again, apologies. I have read the user manual, FAQ and wiki.

Found the .ISO file in my c:\program files\Sun.....
Just where the manual said it was.....
Installation went smoothly, because I had already installed
all the development bits.
